Pregnancy and Infant Loss: How your support can make a difference

The impact of pregnancy and infant loss on families in Ontario is significant, and long lastingThis presentation will provide information for health care professionals to better understand their role in providing compassionate care, and the importance of connecting families with supportAttendees will learn more about the Pregnancy and Infant Loss (PAIL) Network’s family support programs and other educational offerings for professionals.

Following this session, participants will be able to:

  1. Understand the emotional and psychological impact of perinatal loss on families.
  2. Identify appropriate communication strategies for supporting families experiencing perinatal loss.
  3. Discuss professional boundaries around perinatal loss.
  4. Provide practical guidance on re-engaging with clients following infant loss for subsequent pregnancies.​

Presenter(s)

MichelleLa Fontaine is the Regional Program Manager for the Pregnancy and Infant Loss Network, and is a passionate advocate, speaker, and leader dedicated to raising awareness and support for individuals and families impacted by pregnancy and infant loss.  Having personally navigated infertility, miscarriage, and the devastating stillbirth of her twins in 2005, she brings a unique perspective to the conversation around grief and bereavement.   

Megan Fockler is a Registered Nurse with 17 years of experience as a Labour and Delivery nurse, and then as an Advanced Practice Nurse in High Risk Obstetrics at Sunnybrook Health Sciences Centre in Toronto.  As the Manager for PAIL Network, she provides leadership to the PAIL Network team, and offers her expertise in education, research, and resource development.
