The Science of Stress and the Practice of Embodied Boundaries: Practical Somatic Tools in Times of Overwhelm
This is an archive of a past event.
How do we truly hold space for ourselves while holding space for others? Persistent stress and overwhelm in our daily life impacts our bodies and our sense of boundary. It takes courage to explore our boundaries, compassion and practice to honour them. Grounded in the polyvagal theory, neurobiology and trauma-informed care, we’ll begin with the fundamentals: a brief exploration of the contemporary science of our nervous system and an experience of tangible, research-informed somatic tools that can help reduce the impacts of stress, anxiety and overwhelm in our everyday life.
By the end of this event, participants will be able to:
- Gain a foundational understanding of the neurobiology of the nervous system, the organizing principles of Polyvagal Theory and how these shape our experience.
- Explore accessible interoceptive awareness practices as beginning tools for establishing and maintaining embodied boundaries, and reducing stress.
- Map their own experience and identify, at minimum, 1 practical tool or skill to get curious about and explore in their daily life.
