When working with individuals who have experienced violence, it is important to establish a therapeutic relationship characterized by trust. Consistent application of the principles of trauma-and violence-informed care (TVIC) facilitates the prioritization of the emotional and physical safety of the client. This is one strategy that reduces experiences of re-traumatization or harm during a client’s encounter with the health care system.
