I always appreciate a good recommendation for a new podcast that I can listen to, whether I am on the road driving to work at a COVID-19 vaccination clinic, commuting to McMaster or just out for an evening walk. “Stories From the Field: Public Health Nursing in Ontario” is a new, six-episode podcast that amplifies the voices and experiences of public health nurses- and is essential listening for anyone who is a nurse, knows a nurse, or is inspired to become a public a health nurse. Co-hosts Maureen Cava RN MScN and Susan Blue RN MScN, with over 70 years of combined public health nursing experience, share their passion for this critical upstream preventive work as they interview public health nurses working in a range of programs, from pandemic response to harm reduction. For public health nurses working in the Healthy Babies Healthy Children or Nurse-Family Partnership programs, you will be nodding along in agreement, as you listen to Christina Bradley (Niagara Region Public Health) and Jan Tomlinson (Middlesex-London Health Unit) in Episode 3 “Supporting Childbearing Families” discuss how developing trust within the context of a therapeutic relationship and connecting on the client’s terms, are key to making a positive difference in the lives of pregnant individuals and families with new infants! These stories from the field not only increase the visibility of the essential work of public health nurses, but also document how this work transforms the lives and health of individuals and communities.
